New Program Launched To Help Resolve Landlord-Tenant Disputes

By Tom Stanton Dec 9, 2025 | 12:24 PM

The Mediation Center in Lincoln joined representatives of Justice in Action on Tuesday to celebrate the launch of it’s new  Launches New Pre-Filing Eviction Mediation Program to Support Program, a free service designed to help landlords and tenants resolve housing conflicts quickly, fairly, and outside the courtroom.

Through the new program a wide range of benefits will be offered:

● Save Money & Time – Avoid legal fees, court costs, and lengthy eviction timelines, reducing stress for both landlords and tenants.
● Reduce Vacancy – Minimize costly turnover and maintain steady rental income for landlords.
● Flexible Solutions – Work together to create agreements that meet the needs of both landlords and tenants.
● Neutral Mediators – The Mediation Center is a trusted, impartial resource for resolving conflicts in Lancaster County.
● Completely Free – No cost for landlords or tenants to participate.

“What excites us about this program is the chance to offer a more peaceful way for neighbors to work through conflict,” says Casey Karges, Director of the Mediation Center.  “Every situation is different, and our goal is to support outcomes that work for both tenants and landlords.”

He says by using trained local mediators and an interest-based approach, they can help the community resolve these challenges fairly and collaboratively. Local leaders and community partners were also on hand for the ribbon cutting, including Dana Steffan, a local landlord who has been involved in the planning process.

“When landlords and tenants stop talking everyone loses, but mediation can help tenants and landlords find a path forward,” Steffan says.  Rev. Thomas Dummermuth is Co-President of Justice in Action and also attended the ceremony.

“By providing an avenue for peaceful resolution, this program strengthens families and builds greater stability across our community.”  If you’re a landlord interested in learning more about the program, contact Olivia Butts to schedule a meeting: olivia@justice-in-action.org.
