Nebraska men’s basketball held Creighton to just 31 percent from the field and 24 percent from behind the arc as the Cornhuskers defeated the BlueJays, 71-50, Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Nebraska (8-0) was led by Rienk Mast’s 20 points. Sam Hoiberg contributed 15 and Pryce Sanfort added 13. Austin Swartz led the BlueJays (5-4) with 16, but no other CU player scored in double digits.

Nebraska started the game on a 15-2 run, scoring 13 straight points after the Huskers and Bluejays traded baskets. Creighton cut the lead to six before a Nebraska 8-0 run rebuilt the lead to 28-14 with 3:10 to go in the half. The Huskers took a 33-19 lead to halftime. Nebraska’s defense was stifling, holding the Bluejays to just six-for-32 (19 percent) shooting from the field and just three-for-21 (14 percent) from behind the arc.

In the second half, the Huskers assembled a 5-0 run off a three-pointer from Mast and a Hoiberg reverse layup to push the lead to 42-22 with 15:45 to go. Creighton never pulled closer than 15 in the half
