To say the first year of the Sandhills Global Youth Complex at 1st and Cornhusker was a success would be a huge understatement. Jeff Maul is the executive director of Visit Lincoln spoke with LNK Today and gave some impressive statistics from the inaugural season.
“3,2oo games and practices, 32 weekend tournaments and a 91 team youth league was the first time we’ve had a youth league for select baseball.” Maul says 120,000 people came through the gates and they kept them well fed.
“11,000 hogs dogs served, 4,500 walking tacos, eight thousand cheeseburgers, 11,000 Gatorades and eight thousand bottles of water.” Maul says 2026 is shaping up to be a huge year also. “I don’t think there’s going to be a date on the calendar available.”
The complex features eight artificial turf fields. Five of the fields are for youth baseball and softball and two are for Nebraska Wesleyan University baseball and softball. The facility is also home to a field for Homer’s Heroes. It’s used by children with physical and intellectual disabilities.
