LPD Urging Caution After Responding to Dozens of Weekend Crashes

By Tom Stanton Dec 1, 2025 | 11:15 AM

The first snow of the season has LPD issuing some safety reminders to drivers.  Public Information manager Erika Thomas says on Saturday, Lincoln recorded the eighth highest crash total in the last eight years.

“According to numbers reviewed by our Crime Analysis Unit, LPD responded to 72 crashes on November 29. The only two other 2025 dates in the top 20 are from the February snowstorm,” Thomas says.

In 2025 Lincoln has averaged 20 crashes per day. “The record since 2018 occurred on December 23, 2020, with 90 crashes.  With more snow on Monday, Thomas is urging drivers to slow down and give yourself extra stopping distance, especially when there’s ice or snow covering the road.

She also reminds drivers to turn on the lights, buckle up and avoid distractions.  “Clear snow and ice from your windshield and lights for visibility and safety of other drivers and don’t leave your car unlocked and running if you’re warming it up to avoid auto thefts.

Thomas says make sure you move over for first responders and be aware of crews out clearing the roads.
