Lincoln Police say the 17-year-old boy who was killed in a southwest Lincoln motorcycle crash Tuesday afternoon was Derek Klotz, a senior at at Lincoln Southwest High School. Police say it happened Southwest 23rd and W. South.
Investigators say a 69-year-old Lincoln woman driving an SUV and preparing to turn left onto W. South when she heard what she believed to be a motorcycle speeding. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says the woman told police she started to turn left when she saw the motorcycle’s headlight crest the hill.
Thomas says she stopped her SUV and Klotz laid down his Yamaha bike and slid more than 100 feet before colliding with the driver’s door of the SUV. The bike slid almost 400 feet before coming to a rest.
Klotz was taken to a hospital where he later died.
