The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a two vehicle crash that killed one person and seriously injured another east of Waverly Thursday morning. Captain John Vik says it happened around 9:15 at 162nd and Bluff Road when a southbound dump truck struck a westbound red vehicle.
The impact of the crash pushed the vehicle into a ditch. LSO says the preliminary investigation indicates the truck driver ran a stop sign. Vik said the driver of the red vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
Vik says a dog in the vehicle was taken to a Waverly animal clinic. He says the dump truck driver was putting gravel on the road before the crash and may have run a stop sign. Vik says the driver is cooperating with the investigation.
