During it’s Tuesday morning meeting the Lancaster County commissioners approved a regulation change that allows alcohol to be sold in unincorporated areas of the county at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday.
The previous regulations prohibited those businesses from selling beer before 9:oo and liquor before noon. The change was made following a request by the owner Emerald Mini Mart, which is just outside the city limits.
During a public hearing, one person spoke in favor of the change. John Bowler is the District Manager for Casey’s and says the time difference was confusing for customers of his store near Highway 34 and Adams, which is just outside the city limits.
“Because we have another location within three miles south, and we have three other locations within ten miles,” Bowler says. “We also get a large number of travelers coming through on Highway 34 for sporting events or coming into Lincoln and when they stop in, that is our only location, for Casey’s within that area that does not fit the city limits.”
The vote was unanimous.
