Lincoln Police say 61-year-old Kristine Hess of Omaha was the woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle at 48th and St. Paul around 10:45 Saturday morning. LPD says Hess was crossing the street when she was struck by a flatbed tow truck.
When officers arrived, officers contacted passerby’s who were rendering aid to the woman . Police say she died from her injuries and the driver of the truck was cooperating with the investigation. “It is with the deepest sadness, and with profound shock, that we share that our director of operations, Kris Hess, was killed on Saturday while walking to a Civic Nebraska event in Lincoln,” the organization said in a statement.
Hess was struck just outside the venue where the event was held. Hess joined joined Civic Nebraska earlier this fall. “She oversaw our internal operations, supported our staff across programs, and helped strengthen the systems that make our mission possible,” according to the statement.
“Kris was warm, thoughtful, and deeply committed to work that strengthens community and lifts up every voice. She was the kind of colleague who made others feel supported and seen. Losing her in this sudden and senseless way is an immeasurable tragedy, and our entire organization is grieving,” the organization said.
“We are holding Kris’s family, her loved ones, and all who knew her in our hearts during this terrible time. We are also grateful to those who have reached out with kindness and support.” The Lincoln Police Department requests anyone with further information, including video or audio recordings, to contact the non-emergency number at 402 441-6000.
