No. 2 Huskers top two ranked foes in first day of National Duals

The No. 2 Nebraska wrestling team is on to the semifinals of the NWCA National Duals in Tulsa, Okla., after a 35-7 thrashing of No. 8 Lehigh in the first round and a 24-14 victory over No. 11 Michigan in the quarterfinals. The Cornhuskers advance to take on No. 4 Ohio State Sunday at 10 a.m. in the semifinals.

Against the Mountain Hawks, Nebraska rebounded from dropping the first match of the dual as Omar Ayoub (133) won by major decision, Brock Hardy (141) pinned his opponent and Nikade ZInkin won by decision at 149, giving the Huskers a 13-3. After defending national champion Antrell Taylor was upset at 157 pounds, losing by a 9-1 major decision to Logan Rozynski, Nebraska rebounded with five straight victories to close the dual, including four earning bonus points. LJ Araujo won by fall at 165, Christopher Minto triumphed by major decision at 174 pounds, Silas Allred won by decision at 184 pounds, while Camden McDanel won by major decision at 197 and AJ Ferrari won by technical fall at heavyweight.

In the second match, the Huskers against started down 3-0, before a major decision win by Jacob Van Dee (133 pounds) and a technical fall victory by Hardy (141) gave Nebraska a 8-3 lead in the dual. After a major decision loss at 149 pounds by Zinkin, Taylor bounced back from his earlier loss with a technical fall triumph over Cameron Catrabone at 157 pounds, putting the Huskers ahead 14-7. After a decision loss at 165 pounds, Minto went to sudden victory time to defeat Beau Mantanona, 4-1, and put the Huskers ahead, 17-11. After a decision loss at 184 pounds, McDanel went to sudden victory to beat Hayden Walters, 4-1, at 197 pounds, giving NU a 20-14 lead with one match to go. Ferrari clinched the victory with his second bonus-point victory of the day, beating No. 4 Taye Ghadiali by major decision, 11-3.
