Lincoln Police say the driver who struck and killed a Lincoln doctor on November 7 near 84th and Cherrywood Drive will not be cited.  “Our investigators have done reconstruction  at the scene, also reviewed surveillance video of the crash from multiple vehicles, and at this time there will be no charges against the driver.

LPD says a red 2010 Jeep Compass, driven by a 19-year-old man, was traveling northbound on South 84th Street approaching the Mopac Trail crossing when it struck 42-year-old Katherine Gogela as she was crossing the street.

“According to the video, the lights for the vehicles were green and then turned to yellow, so there was no pedestrian signal to cross at the time,” Thomas says.  She says one lane of northbound traffic was stopped, but when Gogela came around a vehicle, that’s when she was hit by car.

Thomas says they believe the man was driving under the 40 mile per hour speed limit at the time and remained at the scene talking with officers.  Gogela was a Lincoln pediatrician, a 2002 graduate of Lincoln East High School, graduate of Creighton University and the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Police say the driver also remained at the scene and cooperated with police.  Gogela was a pediatrician at Lincoln Pediatric Group.
