Lincoln Electric System will hold a public open house Thursday, Nov. 13, to discuss upcoming transmission line upgrades in the Haymarket and downtown Lincoln areas.

The event runs from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Hickory Room on the second floor of Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill, 210 N. Seventh Street. Attendees are asked to use the “P” Street entrance.

The open house will give LES customers a chance to learn about construction impacts related to transmission improvements around the Haymarket and the north side of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s City Campus.

LES and its contractor, Watts Electric, plan to upgrade transmission lines from South 1st and “M” streets to North 17th Street and Salt Creek Road. Crews will use existing transmission structures to minimize disruptions, though temporary parking, sidewalk, and lane closures are expected. Work is scheduled to begin in January and finish in February.

“Upgrading transmission lines in the Haymarket and downtown areas will provide the capacity for increased electricity needs of the future,” said Tim Rajewski, LES Energy Delivery project manager. “By being proactive with system upgrades, we can maintain reliability across our service network.”
