In the holiday spirit of giving, the University of Nebraska State Museum–Morrill Hall is expanding access to its exhibits and helping fight food insecurity in the Husker community.
Effective immediately, families and individuals who qualify for SNAP or WIC benefits will receive free admission to Morrill Hall through the Museums for All program—a national initiative that provides affordable museum access to income-qualified families nationwide.
“We had always charged $1 admission under Museums for All,” said Caroline Clements, spokesperson for Morrill Hall. “But given some of the economic challenges families are facing and with the holidays approaching, we decided now was a good time to shift that rate to free admission.”
Morrill Hall joined Museums for All in 2020, and Clements said participation has steadily grown each year as awareness spreads.
“The museum’s all about stimulating curiosity and asking questions about the world around us,” she said. “We hope more families will take this opportunity to come, explore, and engage.”
In addition, Morrill Hall is serving as a drop-off site for the Husker Pantry’s Winter Food Drive, which runs officially through Nov. 12 but will continue accepting donations at the museum through the end of the year.
“One in three students on campus are struggling with food insecurity,” Clements said. “We just want to give back to our Husker family.”
Visitors who bring a donation (canned goods, beans, fruits, vegetables, hygiene items, etc.) will receive a free pass to the Mueller Planetarium as a thank-you.
“We’re grateful for the community’s support and just want people to know that Museums for All is here for anyone who’d like to use it,” said Clements.
