A Saturday night house fire caused nearly $200,000 in damage. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says crews were called to the home near 48th and Normal Blvd around 7:45 p.m.  “Our crews got there and were able to put it out pretty quickly.”

Lierman says witnesses say the homeowner told investigators they came downstairs and found a candle left burning in the basement.  She says the resident thought the jar candle  had exploded, igniting the fire.

She says crews were able to put it out quickly and no one was injured.  Damage is estimated at $150,000 to the house and $50,000 to contents.
