Behind 23 points by Britt Prince and 20 points by Jessica Petrie, the Nebraska women’s basketball rolled to an 80-46 win over Samford Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The Cornhuskers improved to 2-0 on the season with two blowout wins heading into Wednesday’s in-state rivalry matchup against Creighton.

Prince was 10-for-13 shooting while Petrie shot nine-for-17. Petra Bozan added 13 points while Amiah Hargrove notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Briana Rivera led the Bulldogs with 14 points including four-for-seven shooting from behind the arc.

Nebraska burst from the starting gate on a 13-0 run. Petrie was the driving force of the early surge, scoring the last six points of the run. After a Samford three-point, Petrie drained a three to answer, sparking a quarter-ending 8-2 run to give NU a 21-5 lead through the first 10 minutes of the game.

The Huskers opened the second-quarter on a 10-0 run, opening a 31-5 lead with seven minutes remaining until halftime. The Bulldogs cut Nebraska’s lead to 14, but the Huskers took a 42-25 lead to halftime.

Samford cut the NU lead to 15 with the first points of the third quarter, but a 9-0 Husker run removed most of the drama from the rest of the contest. Nebraska led 64-36 through three quarters and cruised from there to the victory.

The Huskers now prepare to battle in-state foe Creighton Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Pregame coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. on KLIN and B-107.3.
