Nebraska center Rienk Mast notched the third triple-double in school history (18 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists) as the Cornhuskers rolled to a 96-66 win over Florida International Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Mast joined Cam Mack (2019) and Dalano Banton (2020) as the only three Nebraska men’s basketball players to register triple-doubles. All three did it while being coached by Fred Hoiberg. Mast had a double-double locked in by halftime, with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the game’s first 20 minutes. That was his eighth as a Husker and 28th in his college career.
Pryce Sandfort led the Huskers in scoring with 20 points on six-for-nine shooting from three-point range. Braden Frager added 15 points, his second straight double-digit scoring game, while Connor Essegian scored 13 and Berke Buyuktuncel tallied 11. Hamed Olayinka and Julian Mackey each scored 12 to lead FIU.
An 11-0 run early in the first half gave Nebraska the lead for good at 16-6 with 13:35 to go in the first half. The Panthers never got closer than seven points and the Huskers led 49-28 at halftime. Nebraska’s lead in the second half was never smaller than 22 points.
The Huskers are next in action Tuesday against Maryland-Eastern Shore at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6 p.m. on KLIN.
