City Announces Street Closures For Sunday’s Half-Marathon

This Sunday’s Good Life Halfsy will be another record breaker. Organizer Ben Cohoon says 9,000 runners from every state will be in Lincoln for the 12th annual half-marathon.  That’s a 20 percent increase over last year.

“A lot of the reason we can grow is that we have expanded the race course down Normal Boulevard,” Cohoon says.  Runners will now have two lanes on Normal.   The race will begin at 8:30 Sunday morning at Seacrest Field and will end on Canopy Street in the Railyard where runners will be greeted by family and friends.

Cohoon says the event is expected to generate $4 million in economic impact for the City of Lincoln as people stay in hotels, eat in restaurants and shop in local businesses.  LTU says streets throughout Lincoln will temporarily close Saturday and Sunday.  Lincoln Police Department will control intersections along the race route, and residents are advised to plan ahead for traffic delays.

During the race, LPD will use social media to announce when streets reopen.  The race course map is available at goodlifehalfsy.com. Residents are invited to support the runners at four outdoor cheer stations located at Neighbors Park, Union Plaza, Innovation Campus and Haymarket Park.

LTU says parking will not be allowed on Holmes Park Road and South 76th Street from 8 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, and parked vehicles may be towed.  Parking will not be allowed on New Hampshire Street from 14th to Sixth streets from 8 p.m. Saturday to 3 p.m. Sunday and The Pinnacle Bank Arena festival lot and Haymarket Park lot will be available for parking.
