Lincoln Police are investigating an apparent homicide after a deceased woman was found in a northeast Lincoln apartment complex Thursday morning.
According to LPD Assistant Chief Jason Stille, who spoke with local media at the scene, 9-1-1 dispatchers received a welfare call from family members of a woman living on Deweese Drive, just north of 56th and Holdrege Streets. They told police they “had not seen their loved one in a couple days and felt that was suspicious.”
Officers were dispatched to the scene minutes later.
“The family members provided a key, and they went inside to search for the female, finding both a 40-year-old female and a 40-year-old male inside. The male was taken into custody without incident. The female had obvious signs of injury to her neck and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Stille said.
The male was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries to his face and neck. Police have secured the home in anticipation of crime scene investigators who will process and catalog evidence. The woman’s name is not being released at this time pending family notification.
“We will be in the neighborhood for some time as we investigate this case,” said Stille.
Currently, Stille says they waiting for a search warrant to search and secure any possible weapons involved in the incident. He could not “confirm or deny” if this was an incident of domestic violence.
“We are looking into the relationship between the male and female found inside the home at this time,” he said.
No other people were inside the home when police arrived. More information is expected to be released Friday morning, following today’s investigation.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to call LPD’s non-emergency number at 402-441-6000. If you would like to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600 or report online at lincolncrimestoppers.com.
