Pillen Says ‘Cornhusker Clink’ Ready to Accept Immigrants Arrested by ICE

By Tom Stanton Oct 20, 2025 | 4:13 PM

During his monthly state-wide radio call in show Monday afternoon, Governor Jim Pillen said the ICE detention center in McCook is ready to accept illegal immigrants.  “It is empty now and security has been upgraded,” Pillen said.

There’s a high razor wire fencing around it and Homeland Security is doing walk-throughs this week.”  Pillen says the converted Work Ethic Camp will be ready to house illegal immigrants in the next week.

The nearly 200 inmates at the camp have been moved to other correctional facilities, mainly in Lincoln and Omaha.  During the one hour show, Pillen was confronted by several callers not happy with his position on medical marijuana.

“Why is your administration trying to dismantle a statute that over 71 percent of people of Nebraska voted for,” one woman commented.  Pillen maintained that he 100 percent supports medical marijuana.

“What I don’t support is recreational use and that is not what the voters voted on.”
