Lancaster County Commissioner Rick Vest announced Wednesday that he will be seeking another term on the Lancaster County Board in 2026. Vest was elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. “It has been my great honor to serve on the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners for the last seven years,” Vest says.
Vest highlighted that over the last seven years, Lancaster County has faced numerous challenges, including aging infrastructure with over 40 bridges closed, a labor shortfall in the Sheriff’s Department and the County Jail, a dismal cash reserve, and sinking funds inadequate to address the challenges.
“I am very proud that as a group we were able to make Lancaster County the most fiber-connected county in Nebraska, build a resilient infrastructure network that includes a modernized fleet of equipment, reduce closed bridges by over 90 percent and support tourism by helping fund the Sandhills Global Youth Sports Complex and a new swimming pool in Waverly.”
Over the last five years, Vest says the board has reduced the levy to historic lows while maintaining vital funding for federal road projects, public safety, and all essential services. He currently serves as chairman of the board of commissioners.
