Documentary Exploring Hidden Battles of Mental Illness to Premier in Lincoln

By Tom Stanton Oct 10, 2025 | 3:40 PM

A Lincoln mental health therapist and advocate recently served as executive producer of a documentary that seeks to destigmatize mental illness. Jeromie Luginbill tells KLIN News “Hidden Battles: Destigmatizing Mental Illness” offers an unflinching and deeply human exploration into the lives of four individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness, shedding light on the challenges they face and the emotional toll on their loved ones

“We might have pre-conceived ideas of what mental illness looks like, and it can look very tragic.  However, we also know that people get better and I really want that story known.”  Through candid storytelling, Luginbill  says Hidden Battles challenges societal stigma and encourages empathy, understanding, and respect for those living with mental health conditions.

“This documentary is more than just a film, it’s a movement,” Luginbill says. “Our goal with Hidden Battles is to create space for honest conversations around mental illness, and to empower individuals and families affected by it.”

Luginbill says at its core the documentary is a call to action, urging communities to break down the barriers that prevent individuals with mental illness from leading fulfilling lives. “By fostering a culture of support and compassion, the film envisions a world where mental health is treated with the same seriousness and humanity as physical health.”

The official screening of Hidden Battles will held at the Mary Riepma Ross Theatre at 313 N. 13th Street in Lincoln Tuesday night at 7:15.  For tickets and screening information click here .

The film has already won Best Featured Documentary at the Los Angeles Gold Awards, New York Film Festival, and Hollywood Gold Awards Film Festival, and earned a nomination at The Believe Psychology Film Festival.
