The Pioneers Park Nature Center is inviting Lincoln families and young adventurers to connect with the outdoors through a series of nature camps this month.

The Family Nature Camp will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering parents and children a day of guided exploration and hands-on activities.

“It’s a fun opportunity for adults with kids to see what our camp experience is all about,” said Jamie Kelley, Nature Center Coordinator. “Whether you’ve been to our camps before or are new to them, this is a chance to experience a mini camp together as a family.”

Activities will include nature hikes, archery, gaga ball, creek and wetland exploration, and canoeing—weather permitting. Families are asked to bring their own lunch for a picnic between activities, with a camp-provided snack at the end of the day.

The cost is $20 per adult, which includes admission for two youth ages 5–18. One additional child may attend for $7, and pre-registration is required. Kelley said participants should plan to “dress for outdoor exploration and not mind getting a little muddy or dirty, because that means we’re having a good time outside.”

The Nature Center will also host Explorers Nature Day Camps for elementary-aged children on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 13–14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. These full-day programs give kindergarten through fifth-grade students a chance to hike, play, and learn about local wildlife and habitats.

“Kids who like to be outside, who are curious and want to explore, will really enjoy it,” Kelley said. “We’ll spend most of the time outdoors, doing guided activities that teach about the environment, plants, and animals.”

Registration for both camps closes at noon on Thursday, Oct. 9. Space is limited.
