Be prepared to take a detour if you normally drive through the intersection of 56th and Van Dorn. LTU has announced that the intersection will close beginning October 6 for road work.
“Completing this work now will prevent further deterioration during the winter months, providing safer conditions for drivers,” said Thomas Shafer, Assistant Director of Transportation. “It will also reduce the need for crews to return for an extended period of time later, helping minimize future disruption for residents and drivers as we work to complete the project.”
The work is expected to be completed by the end of December. The recommended detour is Normal Boulevard to 48th Street to Pioneers Boulevard to 56th Street. Access to homes in the area will be maintained.
LTU also provided an update on two other projects. The intersection of 56th and Pioneers Blvd is now completely open with left turn access and Normal Boulevard from 56th to 70th streets is expected to reopen one lane in each direction by mid-October to increase traffic flow in the area.
