Food Bank of Lincoln Bracing For Impacts of Government Shutdown

By Tom Stanton Oct 1, 2025 | 4:24 PM

The Food Bank of Lincoln is preparing for a potential increase in the number of people needing their services due to the government shutdown. Communications Director Amanda Fahrer  says right now it’s too early to know what the extent of those impacts on federal workers will be.

“But we do know that any disruptions of this sort will create more uncertainty for our community, especially those federal employees and contractors.”

Fahrer tells KLIN News any loss of paychecks would definitely lead more people to their doors.  “A lot of our federal employees may be just one paycheck away from needing some food support,” Fahrer says.  “Any disruptions in those paychecks could certainly create a gap in resources that would require some food assistance.”

Fahrer says the government shutdown comes at a time when the need for food in southeast Nebraska are already at some historic levels.  “But we continue to show up for our neighbors and we will be here with food resources as they are needed.”

She says you can learn more about where those resources are by clicking here.
