Lincoln Police are sounding the alarm about a phone scam where the caller is claiming to be an LPD Sergeant. Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says a Lincoln man got that phone call on Monday. “The scammer claimed to be LPD Sgt. Jeremy Carr and called from a Lincoln phone number,” Thomas says.
“He told him he’d missed jury duty, violated laws and had a warrant for his arrest.” Thomas says the scammer told him to make a payment via Apple Pay to address the warrant. “The man did not make any payment and hung up.”
Thomas is reminding residents that they will reach out to individuals with warrants in person, not over the phone, and will not request electronic payments via platforms like Apple Pay,
PayPal, and Venmo.
She also says there is no Sergeant Jeremy Carr at LPD. “If you are unsure of someone’s identity claiming to be law enforcement, it is always okay to hang up and call dispatch at 402-441-6000 to confirm the name and badge number provided, along with the attempt to contact you.
