The arrest of 36-year-old Christopher Collins and and the rescue of his 42-year-old ex-girlfriend Jesserae Beck is one of several domestic violence cases that has made news in Lincoln in 2025.  LPD’s SWAT Team served a warrant at a rental property Collins owns on Thursday night and found them both in a bedroom.

There was also a gas leak inside the house and officers were able to safely evacuate Beck.  Collins was arrested after a brief struggle and officers had to use a taser to subdue him.  LPD Assistant Police Chief Jason Stille says Beck had injuries all over her body, but is grateful she was alive.

“This is why we do this job is for the Jesseraes of our community and she was a warrior. And she turned seconds into minutes and stretched minutes into hours to allow us to find her,”  Stille says.

The head of LPD’s Special Victim’s Unit says she is also grateful for a positive outcome.  Lt. Michelle Jochum says this case highlights the unpredictable and dangerous nature of domestic violence situations.  “We want to be clear.  Victims are never to blame for the actions of their abusers,” Jochum says.

“Domestic violence is complex, and decisions made by survivors are often shaped by fear, hope, or difficult circumstances.” Jochum says their focus remains on holding offenders accountable and connecting survivors with the resources and support they need to stay safe.
