UNL Student Arrested For Damaging TV Inside Memorial Stadium

By Tom Stanton Sep 22, 2025 | 8:19 PM

As Nebraska battled Michigan on the field at Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon, UNL Police were busy arresting a 21-year-old student, who’s accused of damaging and outdoor TV screen with a plastic water bottle.

Initially, a Lancaster County sheriff’s deputy saw the student throw the bottle at the small outdoor TV, which damaged the screen in section 9.  At first LSO Chief Deputy Ben Houchin thought it was going to a minor case. “We get up there and we’re wondering how much is it, no one knew.”

Houchin says they thought the damage would be around $200 and they would just cite the fan and remove him.   “All of a sudden they come on and Nebraska Athletics says those televisions are worth $6,000.”  According to KLIN’s media partner, 10/11 Now, the student was booked into jail for criminal mischief of $5,000 or more.

Court documents show the student bonded out of jail on Monday.  According to 10/11 Now, the TV screen will have to be removed and replaced with a new one.
