Lincoln Police have released results of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” traffic enforcement project that ran from August 15-30. “Additional officers worked overtime during the nights and weekends to conduct high visibility traffic enforcement to help deter impaired driving, says Public Information Manager Erika Thomas.
She says officers took a zero-tolerance approach to drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol, while also watching for other traffic and safety violations. Thomas says 14 DUI arrests were made and officers issued 137 citations.
34 of those were for speeding and officers also cited eleven drivers for no registration and ten more for no insurance. The enforcement campaign was made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
