A community Patriot Day ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 11, at the Veterans Memorial Garden in Antelope Park, 3200 Veterans Memorial Drive.
The annual remembrance honors first responders who died in the line of duty during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The event, hosted by Lincoln Parks and Recreation and the Veterans Memorial Garden Advisory Council (VMGAC), will include a wreath-laying at the Post 9/11 Monument, a reading of names engraved on the monument, and remarks by VMGAC Chairperson Craig Anderson.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will move indoors to the Auld Pavilion.
Following the program, the public is invited to participate in a 9/11 Memorial Act of Service Blood Drive until 1 p.m. at Lincoln Fire and Rescue Station 1, 1801 Q St.
The Veterans Memorial Garden is open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. More information is available at lincoln.ne.gov/VeteransGarden.
