Two major lottery jackpots are climbing ahead of this weekend’s drawings, with Powerball reaching its third-largest prize in history.

The estimated Powerball jackpot for Saturday, Sept. 6, is $1.7 billion, or $770.3 million with the cash option. This follows 41 consecutive drawings since June 2 without a jackpot winner.

Meanwhile, Friday’s Mega Millions drawing is estimated at $336 million, or $151.3 million cash.

The Nebraska Lottery reports several big wins in recent weeks, including a $1 million Powerball ticket sold July 9 in Omaha, and multiple $50,000 Powerball winners across Omaha, Lincoln, Nebraska City, and at the State Fair in Grand Island.

“Know your limits and make sure that you set spending and time limits on your lottery play,” said Nebraska Lottery Spokesperson Neil Watson. “It only takes one ticket to win, and your odds of winning are the same, regardless of how many tickets are bought or how many people are playing. So just keep that in mind.”

The largest Powerball jackpot to date was $2.04 billion in November 2022, while Mega Millions hit a record $1.6 billion in August 2023.
