A Lincoln Police officer suffered minor injuries in an explosion under a bridge at N. 1st and W. ‘O’ Streets Thursday morning. Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says officers responded to the report of a trespassing call around 7:00 a.m.
“A campfire was found burning and then something in the fire exploded,” Thomas says. A fire investigator says the explosion happened as the officer removed a blanket that was near the campfire. LFR says several butane cartridges were found near the blanket.
Thomas says the officer had some minor injuries from the explosion, including burnt skin, hair and pain. “He was not treated by medical and returned to duty after the call.” 28-year-old Ashton McCauley of Lincoln was cited for criminal trespass.
