Construction is officially underway on a major project to transform the U.S. Highway 77 and Warlick Boulevard intersection into a full interchange.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) says work crews have begun on the multi-year project that will include earthwork, concrete paving, culverts, retaining walls, and a new bridge. Graham Construction of Valley is the contractor. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2027.

Brian Schoen, NDOT highway project manager, tells KLIN News the first step is creating a temporary road to shift traffic around the work zone. “The main goal at the start is to get that temporary road in and traffic shifted so we can begin the major construction of paving and bridge work,” Schoen said.

Once finished, the intersection will feature a full interchange with ramps and a new bridge carrying Warlick and Denton roads over Highway 77. “It’ll be a lot better access when it’s done,” Schoen said.

Motorists can expect lane closures, head-to-head traffic in some areas, and periodic shifts on Warlick and Denton roads as construction progresses. Schoen added that once crews move closer to Highway 77, there will be temporary lane restrictions, but traffic will remain two lanes throughout.

The NDOT reminds drivers to use caution in construction zones, buckle up, and avoid distractions behind the wheel.
