A Department of Corrections staff member at the Nebraska State Penitentiary sustained serious injuries on Wednesday when two inmates attacked them in the yard. The staffer was admitted to the hospital for treatment of injuries, which include a concussion, multiple broken bones, and lacerations to the face.
Multiple other staff responded to the assault and restrained the inmates, with another responding staff member also sustaining injuries.
An investigation of the incident has been launched. Findings will be provided to the county attorney for the determination of criminal prosecution. The NDCS disciplinary process will be utilized with sanctions such as loss of good time, applied according to the rules and regulations.
