LPS Board Proposing Levy Reduction For 2025-26 School Year

By Tom Stanton Aug 26, 2025 | 8:20 AM

The Lincoln Public Schools Board of Education held it’s public hearing Monday to receive input on the proposed budget for Lincoln Public Schools and ESU 18 for the 2025-26 school fiscal year.  The proposed budget includes an approximately 8.8 cent reduction in the total levy, bringing it to a historic low $1.02 per $100 in property valuation.

LPS is proposing a 3.63% increase in the expenditure budget to just under $559 million.  LPS Associate Superintendent for Business Affairs Dr. Liz Standish says 89 percent of the budget is for personnel.

“So the majority of taxes that come into the school district get paid out to employees, which then are spent throughout businesses in Lincoln as our employees engage with the local economy,” Standish says.

There were no individuals who addressed the board during the public hearing.  The Board will take action on the proposed budget later in September.
