Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 46-year-old man for firing a shot at his stepdaughter’s boyfriend Saturday evening at his rural Bennet home. Captain John Vik says the incident happened around 6:30 p.m.
“A 21-year-old man had arrived at the residence to pick up his 18-year-old girlfriend,” Vik says. “While he was in the vehicle, the girlfriend’s stepfather fired a single round at the vehicle.” He says that rifle round hit the gravel in front of the vehicle and no one was hurt.
Vik says the boyfriend immediately fled from the area. He says deputies investigating the incident learned that Dale Hays was arguing with his stepdaughter about the boyfriend picking her up and didn’t want him on the property.
Hays was arrested and booked into the Lancaster County Jail for using a weapon to commit a felony, terroristic threats and child abuse.
