Customers and employees of a north Lincoln convenience store got quite a scare around 8:00 Sunday morning.  LPD Public Information manager Erika Thomas says according to witnesses, a man  entered the store carrying a rifle, placed items on the counter, and dropped the weapon during the transaction.

“The suspect retrieved the firearm, collected his items and left the store,” Thomas says.  “Although the suspect had paid for the merchandise, store employees and customers feared a robbery
was taking place.”

Thomas says thankfully no one was injured.  Officers quickly located 25-year-old Zavion Simmons nearby and took him into custody without incident.  A rifle and ammunition were recovered at the scene.

“During this investigation, the firearm was found to be stolen from a nearby residence along with electronics, clothing, and a Huskers pinstripe bowl game ring.”  Thomas says the ring was valued at $200 and the overall estimated loss is more than $2,000.

Simmons, who has a prior felony conviction, was taken to the Lancaster County Jail and booked for terroristic threats,  possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, use of a firearm to commit a felony and burglary.
