Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers is co-leading a bipartisan coalition of 50 attorneys general calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to crack down on illegal offshore gaming operations.

In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, the coalition urged the DOJ to take coordinated action against unlicensed, foreign-based gambling websites that they say exploit vulnerable populations, evade taxes, and pose threats to consumer safety and the economy.

“Illegal online sports betting and gaming operations have no place in Nebraska or anywhere else,” Hilgers said. “These bad actors violate both state and federal law… and must be stopped.”

The coalition warns that the illegal gambling market—estimated at over $400 billion annually—costs states more than $4 billion in lost tax revenue as well as being linked to money laundering, human trafficking, and other crimes.

The letter encourages the DOJ to assist states by seizing domains and assets, issuing injunctions, and partnering with financial institutions to disrupt offshore gambling networks.

Hilgers co-led the letter alongside attorneys general from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Utah. AGs from nearly every state and territory signed on in support.
