Authorities Identify Woman Found Dead After Nebraska Chase

By Chase Porter Jul 18, 2025 | 12:19 PM

Authorities have identified the woman found dead in a crashed vehicle near Lincoln early Wednesday morning as Dorinda Segebrecht, of Dodgeville, Wisconsin.

Segebrecht was the subject of an endangered missing person alert issued earlier this week. Her body was discovered in the back seat of a vehicle that had fled from Nebraska State Patrol troopers around 2 a.m. Wednesday. Troopers had attempted a traffic stop on I-80 near NW 48th Street after learning the vehicle was tied to the Wisconsin alert.

The vehicle crashed into a creek west of Lincoln after driving the wrong way through a construction zone. Troopers say it was clear Segebrecht had died before the crash.

“We express our sympathy to the family and friends of Dorinda Segebrecht, as well as the entire Dodgeville community,” the Nebraska State Patrol said in a statement.

The suspect, 23-year-old Gavin Thompson, also of Dodgeville, is in custody in Nebraska and will face several charges, including first-degree intentional homicide, burglary while armed, and hiding a corpse. He was arrested after a four-hour manhunt involving troopers, sheriff’s deputies, local police, and aerial search crews.

Segebrecht’s death remains under investigation by the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Dodgeville Police Department, and the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation.
