The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office was instrumental in taking a man into custody who fled from the scene of a crash early Wednesday morning on I-80 between I-180 in Lincoln and Milford.   The Nebraska State Patrol says the crash happened just after 1:00 a.m.

“One of our sergeants was leaving the scene traveling on Highway 6 and he spots the individual walking down the highway about five miles from where the crash occurred.”

Houchin says the sergeant flipped his vehicle around and made contact with the man.  With the assistance of a Seward County Sheriff’s deputy they were able to arrest the man without incident.  “He did not know the area, he was not from here,” Houchin says.  “As you know, it stormed a lot out there last night and the individual was ready to give up, he was tired and muddy.”

Houchin says the man was taken into custody around 6:15 a.m.  The interstate has fully reopened and NSP will provide additional details in a news conference this afternoon.
