A staff member at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution was seriously injured after being assaulted by an inmate on Wednesday. Nebraska Department of Corrections officials say the inmate attacked the staff member in a support building with a homemade weapon.
A spokesperson says several staff members responded and restrained the inmate. The employee received stitches at the hospital for lacerations to the arm, thumb and forehead. An investigation of the incident has been launched.
Findings will be provided to the Johnson County attorney for determination of criminal prosecution. A department spokesperson says their disciplinary process will be utilized with sanctions such as loss of good time, applied according to the rules and regulations.
