Nebraska State Patrol troopers took nearly three dozen impaired drivers of the roadways over the Fourth of July weekend. From July 3 through July 6 troopers conducted high visibility patrols and traffic control around many community gatherings.
In addition to the 32 DUI arrests troopers wrote 536 speeding citations. 26 of them were for speeds over 100 miles an hour. “This weekend included celebrations across the state and many people who made the wise decision to avoid driving impaired,” said Colonel Bryan Waugh, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “As the summer continues with local events, county fairs, and concerts, always make sure a sober driver is part of your planning.”
Troopers also issued 30 citations for driving under suspension, 12 for open alcohol container and 15 for no seat belt. Troopers also assisted 166 motorists over the weekend. The effort was made possible thanks in part to grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.
