Man Taken Into Custody Following Stand-Off Near Dawes Middle School

By Tom Stanton Jul 7, 2025 | 1:50 PM

A man was taken to jail after barricading himself inside an apartment near 53nd and Ervin Street in northeast Lincoln.  LDP Captain Max Hubka tells KLIN news it began with a call for a weapon being fired around 8:00 a.m. about a block away from Dawes Middle School.

LPD says the caller suspected their upstairs neighbor had discharged a firearm through their floor into his apartment.  “Officers responded and upon further investigation determined they needed to contact the potential suspect and they were not coming out.”  Hubka says the SWAT Team was activated and a warrant was obtained for the tri-plex.

The LSO and LPD armored vehicles were sent to the scene along with the NSP helicopter.  Hubka tells KLIN News after several making several announcements on the loud speaker over the course of 90 minutes the man surrendered.

He was booked on two warrants and charges are pending on Monday’s incident.  Hubka says another person in the apartment was not hurt and was cooperating with police.  No one was injured and it’s not known what caliber weapon was used.
