Former Nebraska men’s basketball player Larry Florence passed away Saturday at the age of 49 after a decade-long battle with cancer.
Florence played for the Huskers from 1996-2000 and was a four-year starter. He helped Nebraska to the NCAA Tournament in 1998 and earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors as a senior, 1999-2000. He averaged 13.0 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game while serving as team captain.
After playing for Nebraska, Florence played professional basketball overseas before returning to his native Alabama to serve as a high school basketball coach. He was diagnosed with myeloma and battled the disease before dying Saturday.
