Lincoln Police say a dispute between neighbors over fireworks ended with a man going to jail.
Sergeant Chris Vollmer says officers were called to a home near 32nd & R Street late Thursday night on the report of a man threatening a resident with a rifle. He says arriving officers spoke with a 60-year-old woman who said she had gotten into an argument with her neighbor after fireworks were set near her parked car.
“The two exchanged words and the neighbor left. The victim was later in the rear of her residence when the neighbor returned and threatened her with what she believed was a rifle,” said Vollmer.
The neighbor was identified as 34-year-old Matthew Johnson. Police later attempted speak with Johnson at his residence, but he refused to exit.
After about 3 hours, Johnson exited his home and surrendered to officers. A search warrant was served at the residence, and investigators found the aforementioned rifle, which was determined to be an airsoft replica.
Johnson was taken to Lancaster County Jail under charges of terroristic threats and obstructing a police officer.
