The Nebraska Department of Transportation says 16 people were killed in traffic crashes across the state in May. The NDOT says 16 of the fatalities occurred in 14 crashes. Most of the crashes didn’t happen in the more populated parts of the state.
NDOT says 15 of the 16 fatalities happened in rural locations and 13 of those deadly crashes happened on highways. There were three interstate fatalities. The department says four of the thirteen people killed were not using seatbelts, six were using a seatbelt and three had seatbelt usage marked as unknown.
Three of the fatalities were motorcyclists. There were 23 fatalities in May of last year.
