A Lancaster County judge has ordered a former Lincoln-area Medicaid service provider to pay nearly $800,000 in damages and interest for filing false claims with Nebraska Medicaid.
Devon Gibbs, owner of Love Community, LLC, was found to have submitted fraudulent claims for services not properly documented or rendered by eligible providers. The court ordered Gibbs to pay $664,256.07 in damages—triple the amount improperly paid by Medicaid—as well as $115,029.98 in interest.
Gibbs and her husband, Christoph Gibbs, contracted with service providers for Medicaid-funded shared living arrangements but billed for services performed by other providers and failed to maintain proper records. Default judgments were previously entered against Christoph Gibbs and Love Community after they failed to respond to the lawsuit.
The case was investigated by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and the Nebraska Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud and Patient Abuse Unit.
