The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office made more than 250 traffic stops and issued nearly 400 citations and warnings during a two-week “Make It Click” seatbelt enforcement campaign.

From May 16 through May 31, deputies conducted saturation patrols across the county as part of a national push to increase seatbelt and child restraint use. In total, 259 vehicles were stopped, resulting in two arrests on outstanding warrants and three additional criminal arrests.

Deputies issued 184 traffic citations and 210 warnings or defect notices. Offenses included 96 speeding violations, 14 seatbelt violations, four child restraint violations, and six citations for driving under suspension. Other infractions ranged from registration and insurance issues to cellphone use behind the wheel.

Criminal citations included possession of marijuana, minor in possession of alcohol, and possession of a fake ID.

The enforcement was funded by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
