By Tom Stanton May 28, 2025 | 10:05 AM

Lincoln Police have released results of a traffic enforcement effort along ‘O’ Street over Memorial Day weekend.  LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says officers on street patrol focused on traffic violations along with ground and air support from the Nebraska State Patrol.

Thomas says in total, LPD officers issued 73 official citations and 77 warnings for various violations.

Nine drivers were cited for speeding and seven drivers were ticketed for unnecessary noise. There were six reckless driving citations and two for street racing.  “From Friday through Monday, seven vehicles were deemed disorderly vehicles and towed under the city’s new nuisance vehicle ordinance,” Thomas says.

LPD also made two DUI arrests, including the driver involved in the life-threatening crash that shut down a stretch of ‘O’ Street Saturday night.  “As Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer, LPD wants to reiterate safety messaging for those on the roads heading into the coming months,” Thomas says.

DO NOT  drive impaired – call a friend, a rideshare, a cab, or walk home. Don’t get behind the wheel after drinking or doing drugs. It puts your life and others at risk.

DO NOT street race or drive recklessly. Vehicles caught doing so will be towed under the nuisance vehicle ordinance. It also puts your life and others at risk.

DO slow down, drive defensively, follow posted speed limits and other traffic laws.

DO be extra cautious and aware of more kids on bikes, scooters and crossing streets. Please slow down in neighborhoods and keep an eye out, especially near parks, pools and community centers.
