Lincoln Police will be conducting a pair of traffic enforcement efforts through the end of May. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says officers with the Northeast Team will be focusing their enforcement efforts along “O” Street. “This high-visibility enforcement effort is in direct response to frequent complaints from community members in the area regarding excessive speeding, noise violations, and other reckless driving behaviors.”
She says the goal is to reduce dangerous driving and promote safe road use. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, drive respectfully, and avoid unnecessary noise disturbances , especially during evening and overnight hours.
Thomas says officers will also be increasing traffic enforcement in the northwest part of the city. Officers will focus on speeding, stop sign and red light violations, distracted driving and other high-risk behaviors.
“The northwest area of Lincoln currently contains three of the top five highest crash locations in the city, Thomas says.” “Officers will focus on those areas during high-traffic times with the goal of increasing visibility, enforcing traffic laws, and ultimately reducing the number of crashes and traffic-related injuries.”
Those three high crash areas are 14th and Superior, 27th and Cornhusker and I-180 between Cornhusker and ‘R’ Streets. Both projects are funded through funds provided by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office and will not affect regular patrol staffing.
