Man Arrested After Crashing Into Central Lincoln Home

By Tom Stanton May 1, 2025 | 8:39 AM

A homeowner near 35th and ‘O’ Street got a rude awakening early Thursday morning.  Lincoln Police say an SUV crashed through a fence just south of 35th and ‘O’ Street around 3:00 a.m. The car then went through the backyard and drove completely through the garage before it came to a stop.

LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says prior to the crash the driver was involved in a disturbance at Idylwild park in south Lincoln.  “When they arrived, officers found 25-year-old Tyler Belk of Lincoln inside a black 2022 Honda Pilot.”

Thomas says as the officers tried to approach Belk, he drove off with no lights on. “Officers followed and attempted a traffic stop but Belk did not stop and continued speeding south down N. 35th from Apple to Vine.”

She says officers ended their attempts to stop the vehicle.  “About 10 minutes later, Belk crashed the SUV through a fence and into the northeast corner of a garage of a home in the area of 35th and ‘O’ streets.”

Thomas says the collision threw bricks and debris onto two vehicles parked in the driveway. The Honda Pilot came to rest against one of the vehicles and the porch of the house.  Belk left the scene on foot but officers were able to contact him near 33rd and ‘O’ streets and take him into custody without further incident.

Thomas says Belk refused to comply with a preliminary breath test in the field.  He was taken to the hospital to be checked out and then taken to the Lancaster County Jail.  Belk was booked into jail doe refusing a chemical test and fleeing in a motor vehicle to avoid arrest.

He was also cited for first offense DUI, willful reckless driving, operating a vehicle with out headlights and refusing a preliminary breath test
