Thousands of runners will take to the pavement this weekend for the Lincoln Marathon, Half Marathon, and Mayor’s Run.
City officials and event organizers gathered this week to outline traffic safety protocols and street closures for race weekend, taking place over Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4.
About 2,000 elementary age students will run in the Mayor’s Run and more than 7,000 runners will participate in either the Marathon or Half Marathon.
The Mayor’s Run will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday on the south side of the state Capitol. The Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon will begin at 6:55 a.m. Sunday at 14th and Vine streets. The race will end at Stadium Drive and “T” Street.
Spectators are encouraged to attend the events and support the runners along the route and at the start and finish lines. Additional information is available at lincolnmarathon.org. The Lincoln Police Department will control intersections along the race route and community members are advised to prepare for traffic delays.
LPD will post live via Twitter @Lincoln_Police during the marathon and half marathon on Sunday as intersections reopen.
